If you are new to Linux, I highly recommend OTW's Linux Basics for Hackers. Having read numerous books on Linux over the years, I found this one to be written very clearly, and the information is excellent. I'd also recommend the UNIX and Linux System Administrators Handbook by Evi Nemeth, Garth Snyder, Trent R. Hein, Ben Whaley, and Dan Mackin. This is pretty much the best resource for all things related to the systems administration of *nix (as the title indicates).
Georgia Weidman's Penetration Testing: A Hands-On Introduction to Hacking is great book for OSCP students, as she wrote it as a sort of supplemental guide for the OSCP course.
OTW also recently finished his new book called Getting Started Becoming a Master Hacker. I received an early pdf of the book from the author and read through it, it is quite good. The Python chapter is one that would be extremely beneficial to anyone struggling with python wrt penetration testing and networking in general.
Justin Seitz's Gray Hat Python and Black Hat Python are also useful.
