    OSCP Sylabus updates

since the course materials are updated, what happens to the existing students, do they get new materials like videos and PDF and how about students exam?
is the exam based on old materials or new one?

your feedback would be much appreciated.

    best regards

From the link above, it says:
" The PWK refresh provides more material and machines for preparation. "

"At this time, the OSCP exam, proctoring, and certification procedures will remain the same. "

So that would mean, yes, they get new PDF and videos and new lab, but the test hasn't changed.

Is the old PWK/OSCP cert a bit not so valuable now?

Not less than any other "old" certificate. If you did your OSCP back in the times of Backtrack, is it still valuable now? Yes it is, because it still shows you have an understanding of exploits and all this.
On the other hand, if the PWK course wouldn't get updated, it would lose it's value. "Nobody uses systems that old anymore, I want to learn how to exploit recent technology".

Speaking as an IT guy: Updates are good, and updates are necessary.

I'm currently after 30 days of my 90 lab access and I'm wondering what happens if I purchase an upgrade to receive the new PWK materials and lab access. My time will continue or I will get any additional to get through new materials, exercises and lab?
I didn't find that in update post nor FAQ.

Existing students only get the new material f they pay the $200 upgrade cost.

                  Hi,

Just received my updated course materials, but I had a question about the VM(s). Has the Kali VM been updated? I didn't receive a VM with the updated materials- are they still using the same VM that was issued to me last year? Was just wondering, because I would very much like to use the updated version if there is one to study the new material. Any and all information is greatly appreciated as always

Can anyone who has both the current and previous content comment on whether the 200$ is worth it?

I am currently in PWK with 30 days of lab time and decided to do the switch, and although it bites me, I don't regret it.

It bites me because switching takes several days, like at least 4, but realistically more like 10. That's a lot of 30. I consider that one must re-read many things (formal stuff) in case they might have changed, because you might miss important formal conditions for the exam and the reports. The infos on the web sites are a bit confusing at this time, while the switch is still ongoing: you find links to new stuff and to old stuff, etc., and the manual also contains loads information.
So I'll probably need to get more lab time, and I'm on a shoestring budget. I prepared before the lab using the old syllabus, and now I can't prepare beforehand for the new material all the new matters because I'm already in. That's bad and they don't seem to compensate in any way for this, e.g. by giving some extra time to switchers. So they are clearly disadvantaged in fact, from a material perspective, because there is so much more you will want to read/re-read and it's with no notice beforehand.

But the new content is much more modern, twice the manual's page count and the video's time, and includes several subject matters which simply are today's reality. That's why I still don't regret the switch -- but cost-wise I'll probably need to find a way to pay for more lab. (I'll re-evaluate this later, maybe it's still enough time anyway, I'll see once my axe is sharpened how well I'll axe the boxes.)

If the cost is no issue for you, go for it, that's for sure!, and if it is (well, that's the risk I took), think a bit how you might still be able to manage it. (And if you can't, stick to the old one, you can still upgrade later.)

That'd be my take on it. Content-wise, the upgrade is a no-brainer.

And I'd like to add, although cost-wise it was and is a somewhat difficult choice resp. situation, I'm thankful for them to prepare all this good material (manual, vid's and labs)!

Going through all these things and doing the labs is kind of like feeling in between the stars in the sky, in a certain way. So this has somewhat unexpected deep dimensions, as far as I'm concerned. I'm happily crunching and grinding away through all this. What I feel is that this course helps to make you reveal yourself to you, because one is nudged to discover the material as well as your own way to tackle the methodology, its a strong self-creating aspect that you need to go through in order to advance. That is creativity in action on yourself and on your way of walking forward.

I wish they had some small fee for existing OSCPers to get the new material.

They do - it's $200 (depends how you define small of course)
OSCP | OSWP - It's the wrong trousers Gromit, and they've gone wrong!

What I was saying, is that I already graduated from the OSCP in 2016, so if I pay $200, I would get access to the new course material, but no lab time?
